IEET launched its second accreditation cycle, in which 35 programs were accredited at the May 2006 accreditation decision making meeting.

IEET was supported by Washington Accord signatories as a Provisional Signatory of the Accord at the 2005 IEM Meetings.

September 2004

IEET launched its first accreditation cycle, in which twelve programs of four institutions were accredited.

April 15, 2004

IEET released Accreditation Criteria 2004 (AC2004), the first ever set of accreditation criteria produced in Taiwan.

September 2003

The MOE formally chartered IEET as the sole window for international contact on issues related to accreditation of engineering education.

July 2003

During the International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEE), participants from Taiwan unanimously agreed that IEET takes the sole responsibility for accreditation of engineering programs.

June 21, 2003

The Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) was founded as an independent, non-profit, non-government, organization with accreditation of engineering programs as the primary mission. The first president elected was Dr. Che-Ho Wei, who was then the Chairman of National Science Council.

June 2003

At the invitation of ABET President, Dr. George Peterson, a Taiwanese delegation led by Dr. Shan-Hwei Ou observed attended the Sixth Biennial Meeting of Washington Accord Signatories in New Zealand. A statement was made to express the intention of Taiwan to take necessary actions to apply for Provisional Signatory Status in the Washington Accord in the near future.

January 2003

During the National Engineering Education Conference (also known as Conference of Presidents and Deans of Engineering/Technology Universities and Institutes), a consensus was reached to start a new organization to coordinate and promote engineering and technology education accreditation. A working team, headed by Prof. Yeong-Bin Yang, was formed.

1980

The Ministry of Education (MOE) formed the Science and Technology Advisor Office, with the first director being Dr. Chun-Tsung Wang (who is currently the Honorable Member of the IEET Board of Director). Initiatives were undertaken by MOE to reform engineering and technology education, thus, shortly started curriculum reviews, which has been on-going up to the present time.
